Manorcroft School Fete 29th June 1996

The cover design of the fete programme was done by Amny Baker Smith. The Manorcroft School PTA would like to thank all the companies and organisations that supported with donations and help towards the Summer Fete. The main crowd puller was the Medieval Combat Society display. Other hightlights included a dancing performance by the Runnymede Dancers, a fancy dress parade (each child was rewarded with a prize) and the Grand Summer Draw. Supporting the fete where various stalls offering games of skill and luck, things to buy or eat. Well done PTA.

The Medieval Combat Society

Originally formed in 1970, the Medieval Combat Society is one of the oldest Tournament groups appearing in the country today.

The object of the Society is to entertain the public and generate an interest in our history. We recreate a 14th Century Tournament complete with all it's pomp, pageantry and Knights testing each others skill in the art of combat.

Clad in armour weighing up to 84lb (38kg) - in hand made chain mail of over 20,000 steel rings - cheered on by their loyal supporters - the Knights do battle using authentic steel weapons. Listen to the awesome crash as they meet head on, cheer as sword rings against sword, applaud as sparks fly and feel sympathy as the loser drops to the ground like a felled tree.

The fighting looks dangerous and it certainly can be, which is why each Knight must undergo many months of training before being allowed to take part in a Tournament. None of the fights are staged and each combatant must rely upon their own skills and training to survive the contests - bringing you one of the most exciting shows in the country.
